Under twelves in action

On Sunday 21/08/11 John Lockes U12 team travelled to Tullahaught to take on Windgap in the Heritage sponsored U12 tournament. The Callan men were short 5 of their key players but the U10 squad stepped up to the mark and filled the gaps. The pitch and surroundingswere idellic for hurling and the fare on the pitch reflected the setting. Windgap were first out of the traps and scored three unanswered scores but slowely the Callan men settled and were level after 15 minutes. It was even hurling up to half time with windgapcoming in with a three point lead. A fortunate goal for windgap early in the second half stretched the lead and left the Lockes with a hill to climb. The last 15 minutes was all Callan but the elusive goal that was needed did not materialise and Windgap wonby the narrowest of margins. In Goal Lee Thornrton was Man of the match. The full back line of Captain Charlie Round, Jack Bradley and Jack Fitzpatrick were rock solid with the half back line of James Shirley, Conor Murphy and Evan Doyle contesting every ball.At midfield Darragh Bergin and Nickey Butler fought for every ball with the half forward line of Michael Power, TJ Tierney and Kyle Bergin putting in a busy morning. The full forward line of experienced players Brian Kearney and Jack Doyle survived off of scrapsand made best use of what came their way and debutant corner forward Jer Power can feel very happy with his first game in a John Lockes jersey.
