JOHN LOCKES AGM 2012

The John Lockes Club reviewed the past years activities when they held their A.G.M. In the parish hall on Friday night last. Fr. Dalton opened the meeting with a prayer and the club remembered former members and supporters who died during the year including, T.J. Hogan, John Joe Brennan, Davy Holden, Bernadette Lynch and Con Sullivan and Tom Ryan (both of whom died at the weekend were prayed for ).
Chairman John Walker welcomed all to the meeting saying it was a year of mixed fortunes with the Intermediate team being relegated in the same year as the club are building a state of the art facility for the future. He expressed his thoughts on the role of the players within the club and ways to bring together a closer working relationship between younger adult players and management and committee. He said he would be addressing these issues early in the new year. John thanked the fundraising efforts during the year and he singled out all those who gave of their time in the recent timber auction for special mention. He said there were challenging times ahead for the club with paying for the new development and that we would be calling on the people of Callan in 2013 for their help and support and that the new facilities would be available to the whole Parish of Callan. John especially thanked the clubs major sponsors Callan Co-Op, Callan Credit Union and John o' Dwyer for their generosity.
Secretary Declan gave a very detailed report on club activities during the year .Declan paid tribute to the various committees working within the club and also those who gave of their time in coaching at juvenile level. He wished John Stapleton well in his new role as Southern Board P.R.O. Declan sounded a note of caution for 2013 saying that as we are a small club that we all need to pull together to move the club forward both on and off the field of play. He also paid tribute to the local schools for their work in promoting our games and also the Camogie club who are very active in providing coaching at different age groups.
Treasurer Sean Hogan outline the financial report for the year and performed a minor miracle balancing the books considering that the club had no income from John Locke Park for the year and we were also short of our Field Day fundraiser in 2012. Sean informed the meeting that the clubhouse section of the development was nearing completion and that the astra turf alley would commence in early 2013. Significant fundraisers will be needed into the future but we will have a facility to be proud of Sean said and he said that each committee member will be needed to achieve our aims for 2013.
Juvenile Chairman Jim Lynch outlined the various activities from u-6 to minor level paying tribute to the minor team which captured the Roinn B league title, he gave numbers of children playing at the various levels and thanked all who were active in promoting our games among the youth. Jim thanked Colaiste Eamonn Ris for the use of their facilities during the year especially at the August weekend which once again proved to be a huge success.
P.R.O. Bosco Bryan thanked all lotto members and promoters for their efforts during 2012 and voiced the hope that the lotto would succeed in achieving the ultimate aim of servicng the loans on John Locke Park in the future.
Upcoming events in the club are a bag pack in Super valu Callan on Christmas week, a 5km walk on St. Stephens day at 11am followed by refreshments in the Parish Hall and an appearance by the Liam Mc Carthy cup with surprise guests, a great chance to shake off the Christmas cobwebs for all the family.
