Second defeat for Football Ladies
The John Lockes ladies football team hosted Rathvilly from Carlow in their second round game on Thursday evenng last. The Lockes were forced to field without five of their panel due to soccer and exam committments , neverthe less this gave an opportunity for the extended panel to demonstrate their desire to secure a starting place in future. The visitors proved to be a serious challenge with no quarter given or asked for . The teams were level at two points each when Rathvilly were awarded a penalty on the stroke of half time which they duly despatched to the net despite the efforts of impressive Lockes keeper Erin Thomas. In the second half the Carlow girls pulled away with the aid of the breeze and the Lockes girls had their own penalty opportunity but a brilliant effort from Katie Delaney flew over the bar. Jenny Logue and Lynn Beirne in defence tried all they knew as did Jessica Scriven and further afield Antoinette Power, Caroline Murphy and Deirdre Carroll gave everything for the cause as did the rest of the girls. Once again the girls can be proud of their efforts in what is effectively their first season and there ceertainly is gradual improvement with every fixture. Final score was Rathvilly 2-6 to 0-3 . Next up for the Lockes is a home game against Ballinabranna (Carlow) on Thursday 15th May at 7.30pm.
