John Locke Park becomes Field of Dreams for the Family

John Lockes Park has hosted many great events in its near thirty year history, from the Oireachtas final between Kilkenny and Cork in 1984, John Lockes winning their only Minor ‘A’ title on the same field, witnessing some classic club games to the famous John Lockes juvenile tournament every August weekend. Yes the classic ground thought it had seen it all but next Sunday it will host a far different event and one that will gladden the hearts of children and adults alike. For the first time ever the ‘Field of Dreams’ will become the ‘Field of Fun’ for one day when the place will come alive with loads of fun events for all. There will be a special play area for the smaller members of the family, loads of floats, game centres and of course massive adventure centres for the bigger children. Of course there will be plenty for the adults to do also, with wheels of fortune, driving a nail in the log, why not try the craziest bicycle in the world, bet you won’t be able to ride it in a straight line!. There will be a dedicated area for food with teas, sandwiches, hot dogs and burgers been served as well as a fine tuck shop and of course wishing for a warm day loads of ice cream. For dog lovers there is a massive dog show with prizes for all. Perhaps your pooch has a cute face, a really waggle tail or just basically a loveable creature, whatever there will be plenty of opportunity to win a rosette as the John Lockes club have gone all out to ensure the Dog Show will be a big event. Of Course the main reason for the Field Day is to raise funds for the club and in doing so provide loads of entertainment for the local community and surrounds. As you all probably know by now the John Lockes are embarking on a huge redevelopment of the Park. This will improve the facilities massively which will benefit the growing young population of boys and girls in the parish. The club have now been granted planning permission for the new dressing rooms and sports hall and hopefully work will commence at the park by midsummer, so next Sunday will be a fitting way to sign off on the old John Locke Park and come June 2012 the John Lockes Field Day will say hello to the brand spanking new John Locke Park. The club have put a huge effort to making the Field day a huge success, the colourful signs dotted along the main approach roads have received a lot of positive comment, despite some people trying to sabotage the event by removing some of the signage near Kilkenny and on the Windgap road. The club for their efforts will hopefully have a fine day next Sunday and of course above all have loads of people coming through the gates from 1.30pm. Admission for the adults is €3.00 while children are free and entry for the dog show is €5.00. Don’t miss it.
