August Weekend Tournament
The annual Juvenile Hurling Tournament took place over the weekend with fourteen teams taking part between u-9 and u-12 grades. The u-9 competition involved ground hurling and all the surrounding clubs were involved. Two groups of three played a round robin format with three finals. 3rd place final was between John Lockes and Carrickshock with the host club giving best in a very enjoyable game. The second placed teams could not be separated and Windgap and Graigue-Ballycallan shared the honours after their game ended in a draw and they decided to share the accolades. The first placed teams Dunnamaggin and Danesfort served up an excellent finale with Dunnamaggin securing their first u-9 title in the tournament on a scoreline of 5-0 to 3-0.
The u-12 tournament was different from other years with four finals of a summer league which the club had been running down for decision. Erins Own accounted for St. Martins, James Stephens beat The Lockes, Graigue Ballycallan defeated Thomastown and OLoughlins beat Conahy Shamrocks. All participants were presented with Polo-shirts which were generously sponsored by Callan Credit Union.
Many thanks to all club members who selflessly gave of their time in organising the event, having the pitches in sublime condition, stewarding and keeping everybody fed on such a fine weekend for the club.
